You can create text messages, URL’s, phone numbers even SMS messages and send them to friends or anyone who can read them. Webpage addresses can even link directly to the website.

Debranding Nokia BB5 Handsets (part II)

Works with limited number of handsets like : 6630, 6680, 6681, N70, N90 etc.

* Phone (SIM card removed!)
* CA43 or DKU5 cable (Original Nokia with 13 pins)
* Software (http://users.net.yu/~dejan/download/bb5.zip)

Instructions

1. Connect cable to computer and phone
2. Set proper COM cable (must be, between 1 and 9)
3. Download unlocker, run `install.bat`
4. Open file c:/bb5_unlocker/logs/bb5_unlocker.cfg with a text editor set proper COM port (1-9)
5. Run c:/bb5 unlocker/BB5logunlocker.exe
6. Turn phone on. While it is turning on, click READ PHONE. You should see “DONE”
7. Click MAKE LOG, a log will be created. This log is used to generate the codes. Wait until you see “DONE”.
8. Log file is in folder LOGS. Start BB5_calc.exe to make the PSW file.
9. Press button SP UNLOCK and unlock your phone.

It didn’t work!

Solution courtesy to_deal_with on gsmhosting.com

* - Phone off,
* - Connect the cable to phone anc pc (dku5, jaf, serial)
* - Open the program
* - Power on the phone
* - When you see Nokia on the screen, immediately press on Read phone!

Afterwards use BB5 Calc and then SP Unlock

This method has always been a success.
If I power on the phone first and let it start up completely, by inserting the cable phone says enhancement not supported and making log fails.

In this case, reconnect the cable and Press Write backup.
If writing backup succeeded, Just follow the method I wrote above. Tested on many N70.

In Dejan’s words:
Be sure that my BB5 logger is installed properly with apropriate FBUS interface (DKU-5) or old clasic FBUS cable connected to standard COM port.

Start loger.
Once connected phone by FBUS interface to PC, press “Read Phone” button. If everything is ok, some data will be readed and displayed, otherwise check your connection, phone, cables, etc.

If logger shows message “SP Data IS corrupted” than you have phone that somebody played with it and destroyed field 308,1. So, you have to fix that field by sending that phone to official NOKIA repair centre!!!

If everything is OK you can press “Make Log” button. LOGER will create backup of field 308,1 and try to make LOG file. In that process, sometimes field 308,1 can be corrupted which can be checked by clicking again on “Read Phone” button.

NOW, if logger shows message “SP Data IS corrupted” than you just have to click several times “WR Backup” and “Read Phone” to check that is your phone is OK.

My phone is hardlocked. What can I do?
If you have already used all 3 attempts to unlock via keypad, but you have unlock codes from your carrier, you can use the program to input the codes.

1. In “c:\bb5_unlocker\psw” create a text file “aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa_BB5.psw” where is “aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa” enter your phones IMEI
2. Then in that created file enter in “#pw+bbbbbbbbbbbbbbb+c#” where is “bbbbbbbbbbbbbbb” is the unlock codes and where is “c” enter your logs level number (1-7).
3. Save the file
4. Use “SP UNLOCK” function

To debrand you need to change the product code.

Tools Required:

1. Nemesis Service Suite http://www.b-phreaks.co.uk/files/NSS/NSS103814.zip
2. Nokia Software Updater http://europe.nokia.com/softwareupdate

Instructions:

1. Connect your phone and wait for Windows to detecting it.
2. Open Nemesis Service Suite and click “Scan for new device” on the right-upper part of the window
3. Click on the icon “Phone info”
4. Click on “Scan”
5. Change the product code to “select from the list below” and mark the case “Enable”.
6. Press “Write”, and your phone’s product code will be changed (you might think that nothing happened, because the phone is still in normal mode, and the changing of the product code only takes a couple of seconds, but don’t worry, the product code changed !).
7. Close Nemesis Service Suite and run the Nokia Software Update.
8. Make sure not to touch the cable or the phone while your phone is updating or else you will break it!

Proxy settings for NOP for S40v3, S40v5 phones As we all know, Nokia doesn’t allow one to specify a proxy for an Access Point in Series 40 v2 and v3 and v5 phones (6131, 6133, 3110c, 5300, 5200, 5310, 6500) etc.

In its recent versions of the Series40OS (v2 & v3 & v5), Nokia has removed the ability to specify a proxy server associated with an access point. Therefore, those with WAP network plans (such as TMobileWeb users, Airtel NOP users) are unable to use JAVA programs that require internet access (such as Opera Mini, Google Maps,
However, Nokia does allow users to create a provisioning document on their computer. This document, created in wbxml, specifies an access point along with a proxy. The S40 phone recognizes the configuration settings in the document and allows the JAVA midlet to use those instead, thereby allowing the midlet to access the proxy. It’s very simple to implement.

The files included in the zip provide some sample xml documents, and the associated provisioning (.prov) files.

Click
http://boxstr.com/files/2741890_ohjhz/Nokia%20JAVA%20Proxy.zip

to download Nokia S40 proxy settings for JAVA applications ZIP file.
Description of included files:NokiaJAVAProxy.wml: The wml file that you can edit if you need/want different proxy settings.
NokiaJAVAProxy.prov: The actual binary wbxml provisioning file that should be sent to your phone (via bluetooth or usb). This can NOT be manually edited. Process:

1: Push the NokiaJAVAProxy.prov file to your phone using Bluetooth. Send the file via Send File option only do not copy paste to your phone (object push, not file transfer). If your are unable to do it, just transfer it to any Bluetooth supported phone and send that file via Bluetooth to your phone.

2: The phone will recognize the configuration settings, and will prompt you to save them. Don’t worry if it says no supported applications.

3: Go to Settings-Configuration-Default Config. Settings, and change the default config to [the name of the configuration we just loaded].That’s it! JAVA midlets like Opera Mini, Google Maps, MGMaps, etc should work now

Microsoft releases emergency..

Microsoft releases emergency patch for IE: Microsoft on Wednesday released an emergency patch to fix a perilous software flaw allowing hackers to hijack Internet Explorer browsers and take over computers. The US software giant said security update MS08-078 addresses a vulnerability cyber-criminals can exploit to their advantage.
Microsoft encourages all IE customers to test and deploy this update as soon as possible, said Microsoft security response communications head Christopher Budd.
The threat led Microsoft to mobilize security engineering teams worldwide to deliver a software cure in the unprecedented time of eight days.
According to researchers at software security firm Trend Micro, attacks based on the vulnerability in the world's most popular Web browser were spreading like wildfire with millions of computers already compromised.
Microsoft typically releases patches for its software on the second Tuesday of each month and rushing this fix to computer users out-of-cycle is testimony to the severe danger of the threat, according to Trend Micro.
People should run, not walk, to get it installed, said Trend Micro advanced threat researcher Paul Ferguson. This vulnerability is being actively exploited by cyber-criminals and getting worse every day.
The IE software patch will be automatically applied to hundreds of millions of personal computers due to standard update settings in the machines, according to Microsoft Security Response Alliance director Mike Reavey.
Wednesday morning, business networks using IE began getting the critical fix through routine patching processes.
Reavey said Microsoft went into emergency response mode on December 9 after it first learned of the attacks on IE browsers.
A day later, Microsoft published a security advisory that listed workarounds that blocked all known attacks.
Over the course of the next eight days, this advisory was updated five times, adding newer workarounds and mitigations, Reav said. We also continually monitored the threat environment, noting when the attacks began to change in nature and scope.
Trend Micro has identified about 10,000 websites that have been infected with malicious software that can be surreptitiously slipped into visitors' unprotected IE browsers to take advantage of the flaw.
A major Internet portal in Taiwan is among the legitimate websites unknowingly tainted with malicious software aimed at IE's weak spot, according to Ferguson.
Hackers can take control of infected computers, steal data, redirect browsers to dubious websites, and use machines for devious activities such as attacks on other networks, according to security specialists.
What makes this so insidious is it takes advantage of a big gaping hole of IE, which has the largest install base of any browser on the market, Ferguson said.
IE is used on nearly three-quarters of the world's computers, according to industry statistics from November.
Reavey said the patch consists of more than 300 distinct updates for more than half-a-dozen versions of IE in scores of languages.
Analyst Rob Enderle of Enderle Group in Silicon Valley said it was amazing that Microsoft was able to turn out a complex critical fix in a week when such jobs typically can take a month or longer of intense work.
Even with that, the release Emergency Response process isn't over, Reavey said. There is additional support to customers and additional refinement of our product development efforts.
Trend Micro urges IE users to heed precautionary advice from Microsoft, or avoid using the browsers, until the patches are applied.
The exploit is similar to one used recently to steal user names, passwords and other information from people playing online games in China, according to Trend Micro.

Opera 4.2

Opera Software has thrown open the doors to reveal the final version of its popular Opera Mini 4.2 browser for mobile phones. The 4.2 version has been in beta the last few weeks, and now that Opera Software has opened a new server park, users of the browser in the United States should see a 30 percent speed boost.

This release is the first version officially available for Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android mobile platform -- and the T-Mobile G1 smartphone. It's also the first Web browser alternative to the built-in browser on the open Android platform.

Opera Mini 4.2 adds more language versions and offers new skins to let users personalize the look and feel of the browser. Opera Mini's claim to fame is speed, which is delivered in part by cutting out superfluous content on Web pages.

How It Works

Opera has remote servers set up that pre-process Web pages before sending them to a user's phone. The content is compressed to reduce the size of the data transfers, which enables faster browsing -- even on feature phones. For U.S. users, the 30 percent speed gain with 4.2 comes largely from a new Opera server park; however, Opera says that other users around the world should also see improvements due to a reduced load on other servers.

The browser runs on a wide variety of Java-capable mobile phones, including certain BlackBerry, Nokia (NYSE: NOK) , Samsung and Sony (NYSE: SNE) Ericsson (Nasdaq: ERICY) models, as well as phones that run Windows Mobile.

Opera Software reports that 21 million unique users browsed 5 billion pages in October 2008 alone, making it the world's most popular mobile Web browser.

"It is without question the world's most popular aftermarket mobile Web browser, but I couldn't tell you if it is the most used overall," Avi Greengart, research director of wireless devices for Current Analysis , told LinuxInsider.

"Nokia sells an awful lot of phones with mobile browsers," he added.

Regardless of whether it's extremely popular or just very popular -- is it really that good?

"For devices with small screens or limited connectivity, no question -- Opera Mini does the best job of quickly modifying the site for your tiny screen on its servers, and then sends just that data on to your phone. It is certainly my mobile browser of choice for feature phones," Greengart explained.
